TESTIMONIAL LINE-UP COMPLETE

The remaining two places in the Magnus Karlsson Testimonial meeting, which will open the new season at the Beaumont Park Stadium on 17th March, are now confirmed with the inclusion of David Howe and Linus Sundström.

Howe, whose affinity with Leicester comes from the fact that he grew up in the county, is the local boy made good as a professional speedway rider. David made his debut at amateur level in Peterborough’s junior side when only fifteen years of age and he achieved the highest average of all in the team. During his spell at the club, the Panthers won successive league titles and David was crowned British Under-21 Champion, his best career performance in an individual competition.

After five years at Peterborough Howe joined Wolverhampton and continued to make progress, helping the Wolves to win the Elite League Championship in his first season with the West Midlands club. Now entering his sixteenth season in the sport, David currently rides for the Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Premier League and, as captain, he is set to lead out his team against the Elliott sponsored Leicester Lions in a pre-season friendly at the Eddie Wright Raceway on the eve of the Magnus Karlsson Testimonial meeting.

“I would have been a little bit offended if Magnus hadn’t asked me, we spent a lot of time together at Wolverhampton and Scunthorpe, and we always got on fantastically well. I very much enjoyed riding in the same team as him, I’m pleased he’s got a Testimonial and I hope it all goes well for him. I’ve only been to Leicester twice but I will be doing some pre-season practise there” commented David.

The last remaining place in the meeting has been taken up by Linus SundstrÓ§m who began his career in the UK three years ago with Rye House where he signed-off the season with an impressive seven point plus match average. Whilst the Swede continued his association with the Hertfordshire club in 2010, he was soon attracting the attention of Elite League clubs and made his debut for Ipswich in the higher level. Linus made the transition with ease which led to Peterborough spending a five figure sum to acquire Sundström’s signature last season.

The Testimonial meeting will start with a parade of the riders and mascots at 7.15pm with the first race taking place at 7.30pm. Tickets will be on sale on the day from the stadium ticket office from 4.00pm onwards.
